Berlin Museum Island

Museums

Berlin is the city of museums. Over 170 museums in Berlin keep the history, art and knowledge of the city alive and form a unique museum scenery - a dynamic landscape that is growing in breathtaking speed. Many of the museums also form the city's memory banks if you will. Among other things, they document the Kingdom of Prussia, the city's turbulent role in two world wars and the affects of the Iron Curtain.

  • Humboldt Forum/Berliner Schloss: Until its destruction in World War II and the resulting demolition, the Berliner Schloss was a secular building on the Spree Island in the historic centre of Berlin. By decision of the German Bundestag, a modern-functional building was constructed on the site of the palace from 2013 to 2020 according to plans by Franco Stella, which, except for the Spree side, features reconstructions of the palace façades on its outer sides and in two courtyards. The newly constructed building is now home to the Humboldt Forum.

Wintergarten Varieté in Berlin

Wintergarten Varieté

2.9 km from the Maritim proArte Hotel Berlin

Look forward to breathtaking hours in the Wintergarten Berlin. Immerse yourself in a unique world full of light, music and movement and experience an unforgettable evening under what is probably Berlin's most famous starry sky!

In addition to the unique ambience, it is the show programme that makes the Wintergarten Berlin so special. Dance, acrobatics, music - these three elements can be found in almost all of the shows.

DISTEL cabaret theatre

Whether it's a parody of a politician, a biting sketch or a sarcastically twisted cover song - when the spot(t)lights go on at the DISTEL, they tease, dissect and rip off with sharp humour and lots of live music. Lovers of cabaret and friends of black humour get their money's worth just as much as fans of political comedy.  The legendary ensemble cabaret with its chequered history is considered Germany's first address for political satire. Located in the heart of Berlin - right next to Friedrichstrasse station - the DISTEL sees its proximity to the Bundestag and the Chancellor's Office as an incentive to be the "sting at the seat of government". (German performances only)
