Lots to discover
Several of the city's most famous attractions are just around the corner. The historic Leiterstraße, one of the oldest streets in Magdeburg, leads you to Hundertwasser’s Green Citadel in just 200 metres. The Monastery of Our Lady is 400 metres away, while the impressive Gothic Cathedral is within 1 kilometre. If you are exploring Magdeburg’s old town, you will likely come across Hasselbachplatz, affectionately known as the "Hassel" – the city’s lively pub district, offering a blend of gastronomy, historic charm, and an inviting atmosphere for all ages.
Our recommendation: Make the most of your trip with the Magdeburg Tourist Card, available for 24, 48, or 72 hours, offering significant savings.
15 projects supported in 2024
April 2025
In 2024, Maritim Hotel Magdeburg raised a total of 18,000 € through ProTomorrow, which has now been donated to 15 different projects in the Magdeburg region. Suggestions for which charitable organisations should receive the funds come from the hotel’s employees. All supported projects are dedicated to social causes, environmental protection, and animal welfare.
In April 2025, the official cheque handover took place together with Mr Peschel from the Magdeburger Förderkreis für Children with Cancer and Ms Oppermann from Grünstreifen e.V.
ASB Wishes Wagon
March 2024
The Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund’s (ASB) Wishes Wagon grants the wishes of terminally ill individuals. As part of the ProTomorrow initiative, the Maritim Hotel Magdeburg has contributed 5,000 € to support this cause. Thanks to donors and dedicated volunteers, the Wishes Wagon enables free transport for those who can still travel, allowing them to visit destinations of their choice – whether the seaside, a stadium, a concert, a family visit, or even their own home.
Bone Marrow Donation Initiative in Saxony-Anhalt
March 2024
Through the ProTomorrow initiative, the Maritim Hotel Magdeburg has donated 5,000 € to raise awareness of stem cell donations and cover necessary expenses. Over the past 30 years, approximately 500 donors from the University of Magdeburg’s registry have provided stem cells for leukaemia patients across Europe and beyond. There are 26 donor registries in Germany, with costs ranging from 50 € to 70 € per donor for promotional activities, materials, and laboratory procedures, all funded exclusively by donations.
Otto Plants
In November 2023, the Maritim Hotel Magdeburg presented a 5,000 € donation to "Otto Plants" to further support environmental conservation efforts.
At the hotel, guests are encouraged to reuse towels during longer stays, helping to conserve water and energy while reducing the use of detergents and chemicals that pollute water. The savings generated from this initiative are donated annually to charitable organisations.
Children’s Hospice Magdeburg
September 2023
The Children’s Hospice Magdeburg provides palliative medical and nursing care to children with life-limiting illnesses. It is the only facility of its kind in Saxony-Anhalt. The work carried out here requires extensive resources, making every contribution valuable in helping these children find moments of relief. As part of the ProTomorrow initiative, the Maritim Hotel Magdeburg has donated 5,000 € to support their cause.
TierAnker Magdeburg e.V.
Summer 2023
TierAnker Magdeburg e.V. assists individuals who can no longer care for their pets. Volunteers provide food and medical aid, supporting over 100 pets every three weeks, while veterinary treatments incur annual five-figure costs. This initiative is particularly important for elderly, sick, or lonely individuals who rely on their beloved pets for companionship. Through ProTomorrow, Maritim Hotel Magdeburg’s General Manager, Andrea Imwalle, presented a 5,000 € donation to this non-profit organisation.
Bee Buffet
2023
Through the ProTomorrow initiative, guests can opt out of daily room cleaning, contributing to a local environmental or social project. The proceeds from the ProTomorrow programme at the Maritim Hotel Magdeburg have been used to plant a Japanese pagoda tree, also known as a "bee tree", at the Biederitzer Cemetery. Blooming from July to September, this tree provides essential food for ground bees during a critical period.
Honey Donation to the Magdeburg Food Bank
2022
As part of the ProTomorrow initiative, the Maritim Hotel Magdeburg donated 300 jars of hotel-produced honey, worth 1,245.64 €, to the Magdeburg Food Bank. On 8 December 2022, the honey was distributed to those in need as part of a festive event. "A high-quality natural product like this is truly special for the people who rely on us, and I am certain it will bring them some joy during difficult times," expressed Alexandra Franke, Managing Director of the Food Bank, as she extended her gratitude to the hotel and its guests for their support.
Local beekeeper Falko Marquardt, who maintains the beehives on the hotel’s rooftop, also received a ProTomorrow donation of 1,000 € to aid in the protection and preservation of local bee populations.
