Hanover: City of Trade Fairs and Congresses and city amidst greenery with a royal history. In 2000 it witnessed the first ever World Exhibition in Germany. With connections to the Hanover airport and direct rail and autobahn links, Hanover is ideally accessible in the heart of Europe. Besides these, the royal gardens of Herrenhausen, cultural sightseeing and unique events turn Hanover into a tourist jewel - throughout the year.

Historic museum

The very place where the museum is located is closely linked with the history of Hanover: From the high banks of the Leine, which probably lent the name to the young "Honovere" , the city was founded 1100 years ago. Tones of the late Middle Ages in the semicircular Beginen Tower and the remains of the city wall made of rough hewn quarry stone stand witness.

Hop-on Hop-off City Tour

The city tour leads you to the most impressive sights of Hanover. Getting on and off the bus is possible at every stop.
This round trip will take you to opulent buildings such as the New Town Hall, show you the Old Town with its picturesque alleys as well as Hanover's attractive green spaces such as the famous Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen. It is also possible to book a basic round trip.

Serengeti-Park

The Serengeti Park in Hodenhagen brings Africa to the Lüneburg Heath. An animal reserve with 1,500 exotic animals and an amusement world with rides and various shows are located on a total of 220 hectares. In the petting safari and the jungle safari, you can get up close to some of the local wildlife or go on a guided special tour with feeding sessions. In a safari bus or in your own car, you embark on a ten-kilometre journey through the world of lions, tigers, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, rhinos, bison and antelopes. The Adventure Safari offers fun and action with over 40 rides. There are attractions for all ages, playgrounds, trampolines and indoor attractions.

International Fireworks Competition

May to September 2026

On five summer evenings, the world's most renowned pyrotechnicians will compete against each other in the Great Garden to stage an impressive fireworks spectacle in compulsory and freestyle competitions.

Dragon Boat Festival

Around 90 fun teams and 40 sports teams compete for the trophy in various classes on the Maschsee at the Hanover Dragon Boat Festival, which has now firmly established itself in the German dragon boat calendar.

At this very special location, the incomparable Great Garden in Herrenhausen, up to 100 artistes from around the world entertain a delighted public on more than 35 stage for two weeks every July.

Tickets can be purchased in advance. Another 200 tickets are available each day from the box office.

Schützenfest (Marksmen's Funfair)

3 to 12 July 2026

This fair is the largest marksmen's funfair in the world, with a history extending back to the 15th century. Every year, this ten-day event plays host to more than 1.5 million visitors on an area of around ten hectares on Hanover's massive Schützenplatz. The Lüttje Lage, a draught beer with schnapps chaser, is the fair's traditional beverage.

Christmas Market

The Hanover Christmas Market is in fact several markets: traditional in the Old Town, Finnish on the Ballhofplatz, with Finnish specialities, Vegan in the Steintor and Medieval on the Leibnizufer. Get ready for Christmas cookies, crêpes, mulled wine, hot punch and lots more besides at over 170 stalls and stands.
