Places of interest

The town of Homburg gets its name from the Hohenberg Castle which was mentioned for the first time in 1500. In 1528, the town was also referred to as Homburg vor der Höhe. It then became common to refer to the town as Bad Homburg with the introduction of the thermal baths.

The Saalburg was a castle that served as the surveillance point for a Limes section in Taunus during the Roman Age. The first structure on the Saalburg Pass was built in the year 83 BCE. Lantern Festival

29th August to 1st September 2025

The entire inner city and Old Town are transformed into Hessen's largest and most beloved traditional festival. Houses festooned with lamps and Chinese lanterns, carnival processions, fairgrounds, wine and beer gardens, music and entertainment, greyhound racing, concerts in the Schlosskirche church, closing ceremony and firework display.
